La Asociación Mexicana de Bibliotecarios, A.C. (AMBAC) es la institución de bibliotecarios más antigua, más grande y más sólida de México. Con más de un siglo de historia, se originó en la Asociación de Bibliotecarios Mexicanos, que se fundó en 1924. Su objetivo es el desarrollo profesional de sus asociados, la promoción de bibliotecas, la creación de redes y conexiones con otras organizaciones para fortalecer los vínculos y mejorar los servicios bibliotecarios y la bibliotecología del país.
La AMBAC organiza las LVI Jornadas Mexicanas de Biblioteconomía, un congreso que actualiza y socializa conocimientos de bibliotecología y ciencias de la información. Este evento académico convoca y fomenta la participación de bibliotecarios y expertos en información de todas las zonas del territorio nacional.
Durante estas jornadas, se desarrollan diversas actividades, tales como conferencias, mesas redondas, exposiciones y talleres, que contribuyen de manera significativa al aprendizaje y desarrollo de los participantes y asistentes. Además, al reunir a bibliotecarios y expertos en la disciplina, se refuerza la relevancia del trabajo en bibliotecas y centros de información en México.
Este congreso, que se inició en 1956, se realiza cada año en distintos estados de la república mexicana, y actualmente está en su 56.ª edición. Más de cien bibliotecarios participan como autores, conferencistas y facilitadores de talleres, exponiendo y compartiendo sus conocimientos a través de esta plataforma que les brinda la oportunidad de ser reconocidos y de posicionarse como especialistas en su área. Las Jornadas han jugado un papel trascendental en el progreso, desarrollo e intercambio de conocimientos en el ámbito de la bibliotecología y ciencias de la información por casi sesenta años en el país.
Hemos preparado un programa académico renovado e incorporado a estudiantes de nuestro programa de “Jóvenes talentos”, junto con la primera expo industria de la información.
Es así como la 56.ª edición, que se celebra en las bahías de Huatulco, estado de Oaxaca, será un espacio para fortalecer y reconocer la labor de los bibliotecarios en el país.
¡Es un evento esencial para todos los profesionales interesados en la bibliotecología y las ciencias de la información que marcará un precedente y pondrá en la agenda el tema de la “excelencia profesional y social” no solo para transformar las bibliotecas, sino también la sociedad!
Los participantes en las Jornadas Mexicanas de Biblioteconomía provienen de diversas instituciones tanto públicas como privadas. Entre ellos, se encuentran representantes de bibliotecas de organismos gubernamentales que abarcan áreas como salud, economía, energía, ciencia y tecnología, medio ambiente, agricultura, comunicaciones, así como educación y cultura. En el ámbito de la educación superior, destacan instituciones como la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), El Colegio de México, A.C. (COLMEX), el Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), el Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), la Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM), la Universidad La Salle (ULSA), la Universidad Iberoamericana (IBERO) y la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL), entre otras. Este grupo representa aproximadamente el 60% del total de asistentes.
Adicionalmente, también participan miembros del Consejo Nacional para Asuntos Bibliotecarios de Instituciones de Educación Superior, A.C. (CONPAB-IES), que agrupa los servicios bibliotecarios de diversas instituciones académicas y de investigación en el país, así como integrantes del Colegio Nacional de Bibliotecarios, A.C. (CNB). Estos asistentes constituyen alrededor del 30% del total de inscritos en las jornadas, lo que refleja la importancia de la colaboración entre diferentes entidades en el ámbito bibliotecario.
El 10% restante de los asistentes está compuesto por estudiantes de licenciatura en Bibliotecología y Ciencias de la Información, Biblioteconomía y Gestión de la Información y Recursos Digitales, provenientes de los distintos programas académicos que existen en México. Estos futuros profesionales están en proceso de formación y, en un futuro cercano, ocuparán roles significativos en diversas bibliotecas y centros de información, contribuyendo así al desarrollo y fortalecimiento del sector bibliotecario en el país.

LVI Mexican days of Librarianship and First Information Industry Expo
The Mexican Library Association, A.C. (AMBAC) is the oldest, largest, and most solid librarians’ institution in Mexico. With over a century of history, it originated from the Association of Mexican Librarians, which was founded in 1924. Its objective is the professional development of its members, the promotion of libraries, the creation of networks and connections with other organizations to strengthen ties and improve library services and librarianship in the country.
The Mexican Library Association (AMBAC) organizes its Annual Conference, a key event dedicated to the ongoing development and exchange of knowledge within the fields of library and information science. This conference actively encourages the participation of librarians and information professionals from all corners of the nation.
Throughout this Annual Conference, a variety of activities take place, including lectures, panel discussions, exhibitions, and workshops. These significantly contribute to the learning and professional development of participants and attendees. Furthermore, by bringing together librarians and experts in the field, the Conference underscores the vital role of libraries and information centers in Mexico.
Established in 1956, this Conference is held annually in different states throughout the Mexican Republic and is currently in its 56th edition. Over a hundred librarians participate as authors, speakers, and workshop facilitators, sharing their expertise through this platform, which offers them an opportunity for recognition and to establish themselves as specialists in their respective areas. For nearly sixty years, the AMBAC Annual Conference have played a pivotal role in the progress, development, and exchange of knowledge within the fields of library and information science in the country.
We have developed a revitalized academic program and are excited to include students from our «Young Talents» initiative, alongside the inaugural information industry expo.
Consequently, the 56th edition, taking place in the beautiful bays of Huatulco, Oaxaca, will serve as a crucial space to strengthen and acknowledge the valuable work of librarians in Mexico.
This is an essential event for all professionals in library and information science. It is poised to set a precedent and prioritize «professional and social excellence,» aiming to transform not only libraries but also society as a whole!
Participants in this Annual Conference represent a diverse range of public and private institutions. Among them are representatives from libraries of governmental agencies covering sectors such as health, economy, energy, science and technology, environment, agriculture, communications, as well as education and culture. In the field of higher education, notable institutions include the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), El Colegio de México, A.C. (COLMEX), the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM), the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), the University of Monterrey (UDEM), La Salle University (ULSA), Ibero-American University (IBERO), and the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL), among others. This group represents approximately 60% of the total attendees.
Additionally, members of the National Council for Library Affairs of Higher Education Institutions, A.C. (CONPAB-IES), which unites the library services of various academic and research institutions nationwide, also participate, as do members of the Mexican Professional Library Association (CNB). These attendees make up around 30% of the total Conferenceregistrations, highlighting the importance of collaboration among different entities within the library field.
The remaining 10% of attendees comprises undergraduate students in Library Science and Information Sciences, and Library Science and Management of Information and Digital Resources, from various academic programs across Mexico. These future professionals are currently in training and will soon occupy significant roles in diverse libraries and information centers, thereby contributing to the development and strengthening of the library sector in the country.
